Just over ten years ago, when ” the Han Han phenomenon ” emerged , this sarcastic young man surprised the Chinese by refusing to follow the norms of society. In a culture where education is almost a religion, the brilliant Han Han decided to drop out of high school and pursue writing. Many at that time criticized him. The intellectuals said that in some years nobody would know him or that he would have to go to university to develop his career. The parents complained that he was too radical and that he had crossed the line.
Han Han listened intently and responded confidently, with that mix of sarcasm and irony that he has honed over time. Ten years later, the famous Chinese writer and blogger has released a new art and literature magazine , where in a kind of editorial on the front page he defends the struggle of ideals against the reigning pragmatism of society. Here’s what Han Han says in the first issue of Solo Choir, almost by way of an introduction to his magazine:
Translation
A few days ago, someone told me that in his time, when he was going to university, he was a young bohemian and artist whose dream was to be a writer and journalist. “At that time we were all very popular. If we could also write a poem, play a little guitar and buy some flowers, all women would be at our feet. But now, look, women no longer notice that type of men What they are looking at now is … … “So I said to him,” and are you still writing a poem, playing a little guitar and buying a flower? ” He told me … ….
